Use these instructions to configure your Windows 95 or 98 based computer for Tumwater Internet's dial-up Internet service.
Step 1: Start at the desktop. Open up "My Computer" by double clicking on it, then open "Dial-Up Networking". Find the "Make new connection" icon and double click on it.
Step 2: First type a name for the connection into the dialog box. Call it "Tumwater Internet".
Next, select the modem you would like to use to connect to Tumwater Internet in the drop-down dialog box. You will most have just one modem in your PC, so the default choice is probably the right one. Note: Your modem model may differ from what you see in the picture. This is normal, as there are many different modem manufacturers.
Click "Next" to continue
Step 3: Enter Tumwater Internet's access number into the "Telephone number" dialog box. Our access number is 6646778. Type the number in exactly as you see it, with no spaces. Leave the area code dialog box blank, as you will not need it.
Click the "Next" button to continue, then click "Finish"
Step 4: Right mouse click on the new connection named "Tumwater Internet" and click on properties.
Step 5: Uncheck the :Use country and area code" box. .
Step 6: Select the "Server Types" tab and uncheck "Log on to network", "NetBEUI", and "IPX/SPX Compatible". Everything else should be left as it is.
Step 7: Click on the "TCP/IP Settings" button, and check "Server assigned IP address" and "Server assigned name server addresses". Click "Ok" to exit. Click "Ok" again, then close the "Dial-up Networking" window as well.
Step 8: You should now be back at your desktop. Double-click on the blue "Internet Explorer" icon. If Internet Explorer asks you to dial any connections, click the "Cancel" button.
Step 9: Internet Explorer should now be open. Find the "Tools" menu at the top of the screen and click on it. Scroll down to "Internet Options" and click on it.
Step 10: You should now see the Internet Options window on your screen. Please enter http://www.tumwater.net into the first dialog box on this window. This will set your home page to Tumwater Internet's website.
Step 20: At the top of the Internet Options window, there should be a tab named "Connections". Find it and click on it.
If your computer was previously connected to the internet, there will be other connections listed here in addition to the one you've just created for Tumwater Internet. If you will no longer be using these other Internet service providers, please select them one at a time and remove them by clicking on the "Remove" button to the right. When you are done, you should have one connection left. If it is not already the default, please select the Tumwater Internet connection and click on the "Set as default" button.
The last step is to select "Always dial my default connection". This will instruct Internet Explorer and Outlook Express that they should dial your Tumwater Internet connection when you first open them.
Congratulations! You have successfully configured your computer for your Tumwater Internet dial-up service.
